A garage door that will not open, will not close, or makes an alarming noise is more than an inconvenience. It can trap your car, leave your home or business unsecured, and in the case of a broken spring it can be genuinely dangerous. Overhead Door Company of Albany™ has repaired garage doors across Albany and the Capital Region for more than 20 years. Our factory-trained technicians service every major brand, not just Overhead Door™, and every repair is backed by our One Year Parts & Service Guarantee.
With eight service trucks on the road and the area’s largest parts inventory in our Clifton Park warehouse, most repairs are finished in a single visit. Call 1-800-688-4312 to schedule a repair, or request service online. If something urgent happens outside normal business hours, call us and ask about emergency service.
Broken Spring Replacement
A loud bang from the garage, a door that suddenly feels far too heavy, or a visible gap in the coil above the door are the classic signs of a broken spring. Springs are under extreme tension and are the most dangerous part of the door to work on. Stop operating the door and do not attempt a spring replacement yourself. We replace residential and commercial springs with parts matched to your door’s exact weight, and on a two-spring door we usually recommend replacing both, since the second spring has the same wear and rarely lasts much longer than the first.
Cable Repair and Replacement
A crooked door, a slack cable drooping along the track, or visible fraying near the bottom bracket all point to cable trouble. Cables carry the full weight of the door, so stop using it and give us a call. Because cable damage is often a symptom of another problem, we check the springs, drums, and tracks during the same visit. Curious what to look for? Read our short guide to inspecting your garage door cables.
Doors Off Track
A door that has jumped its track will sit crooked, jam partway, or grind against the frame. Forcing it can bend the track and break rollers, turning a modest repair into a big one, so leave the door where it is and call us. We realign or replace bent track, reset the rollers, and find out why the door came off in the first place, whether that was an impact, a worn roller, or a cable issue.
Damaged or Bent Panels
Backed into the door, or caught a corner with the mower? In many cases a single damaged section can be replaced without buying an entire new door, and we stock and order panels for a wide range of makes and models. If the door is older or several sections are damaged, we will give you an honest comparison of panel replacement versus a new door, including pricing for both. See something you like in the meantime? Broken Rollers and Hinges
Worn rollers and cracked hinges announce themselves with squealing, popping, or a door that shudders as it moves. They are inexpensive parts, but ignoring them puts strain on the opener and can lead to an off-track door. We carry rollers and hinges for nearly every door on our trucks, so this is usually a quick, same-visit fix.
Noisy or Uneven Doors
Grinding, rattling, or a door that visibly leans to one side usually traces back to worn rollers, loose hardware, an unbalanced spring, or dry moving parts. A noisy door is an early warning worth listening to. We diagnose the source, tighten and lubricate the full system, and correct the balance so the door runs quietly and squarely again.
Garage Door Will Not Open or Close
When the door will not move at all, the cause can be electrical or mechanical: a failed opener, a broken spring, a disconnected trolley, or a power issue. If the door is stuck closed with your vehicle inside, or stuck open and leaving your property exposed, call us at 1-800-688-4312 and we will get a technician to you as quickly as we can. Avoid repeatedly pressing the remote or forcing the door, which can burn out the opener motor.
Safety Sensor Problems
If the door starts to close and then reverses, or the opener light flashes and nothing happens, the photo-eye sensors near the floor are the usual suspects. Sometimes it is as simple as a bumped bracket, sunlight glare, or a cobweb. If cleaning the lenses and checking alignment does not solve it, we will repair or replace the sensors and verify the door reverses properly on contact, the safety test every door should pass.
Garage Door Opener Repair
Remotes that stop responding, keypads that lost their code, an opener that hums but does not lift, or one that has simply worn out: we fix them all, on most brands. If programming is the problem, our guides on programming your opener and programming your wireless keypad may save you a service call. When an opener is beyond economical repair, we will show you replacement options, including quiet belt-drive models with battery backup and smart controls from Overhead Door™. More on our garage door openers page.
Weather Seal Replacement
Daylight under the door, drafts, or water and mice finding their way into the garage mean the bottom seal or side weatherstripping has hardened and cracked. Capital Region winters are hard on rubber. New seals are an inexpensive fix that keeps out snowmelt and cold air, and we can replace them during any service visit.
Emergency Garage Door Repair
Garage doors do not fail on a schedule. If a spring lets go on a Sunday or a delivery door jams during a busy week, call 1-800-688-4312. We can provide service outside normal business hours; contact us and we will work out the fastest way to get you moving again. While you wait, keep people and pets away from the door and do not try to move it by hand if a spring or cable has failed.
Commercial Door Repair
For a business, a failed overhead door is lost time and money. Our technicians repair commercial overhead doors, operators, and loading dock equipment for businesses across the Capital Region, and we can schedule work around your operating hours. Preventive Maintenance and Tune-Ups
Most of the repairs on this page are cheaper to prevent than to fix. A yearly tune-up catches worn rollers, drying seals, and tired springs before they fail, and it keeps the door running quietly. Ask about our preventive maintenance plans, designed to fit your door and your budget.
