Residential garage door openers

Most residential garage door openers are belt drive or chain drive. A belt drive garage door opener runs more quietly, which matters when there is a bedroom above or beside the garage. A chain drive garage door opener is a durable, economical choice for a detached garage.

Many current garage door openers also offer battery backup, so you can still get the car out during a power outage. Smartphone control is another common feature, and it lets you check from anywhere whether the garage door is closed.

Commercial garage door operators

A commercial garage door operator has to suit the garage door’s size and weight and how many times a day it runs. We install and service Overhead Door™ commercial garage door operators, including the CDX, RSX, RHX and RMX lines, with models ranging from standard to heavy duty.

Garage door opener trouble?

If the garage door opener hums without lifting the garage door, or the garage door reverses before it closes, our repair page explains the likely causes and what you can safely check yourself.

When to replace a garage door opener

Most garage door openers last 10 to 15 years. A garage door opener that has become loud or unreliable may be near the end of its life. One made before 1993 may not have photo-eye safety sensors, and garage door opener manufacturers recommend replacing it.

If you are replacing your garage door, it is a convenient time to replace an older garage door opener too.

Try fresh batteries first, then reprogram it using our guides to programming your garage door opener and your wireless keypad. Still stuck? Call (518) 348-0444 and we will help.

Most last 10 to 15 years. If yours is older than that or was made before 1993, it is worth considering a replacement.

A 1/2 horsepower garage door opener handles most standard steel doors. A much heavier door, such as solid wood, may need a stronger one, but a door that feels heavy by hand usually needs its springs and balance checked first. If you aren’t sure, call and describe your door.
